You are in the heart of the Roman era. Walk through the Roman workers’ quarters, witnessing their garrison, fortress, and homes.

So, you will immerse yourself in great history, living a time inside this most important quarrying site globally. It includes a kind of quartz that only existed in Egypt. This quartz was used in various of the giant historical empire’s most famous buildings.

This settlement, Mons Claudianus, takes you to the Roman forts, going through the gigantic historical walls, and towers, where around 1000 quarrymen and guards had been living and working.

A traceable Roman road connected this historic quarrying site to the River Nile. You can see in this road waystations and resembling small forts.

You can cross through this road today and live the Roman events of taking the stones from the quarries along this road to the Nile Valley for transshipment.
