At Alexandria Library, “Bibliotheca Alexandrina,”  you can learn the full history of the Bibliotheca, established in the Ptolemaic period in the early third century B.C (285 – B.C.). by Ptolemy II. It was the largest bibliotheca of its time.

It was the first governmental library in the whole world to include the largest collection of books in the ancient world. These books at that time reached 700,000 volumes.

However, the old library was exposed to many fires and ended its life in 48 BC. In 2002, the modern Biblioteca was built to rekindle the intellectual light that once showed from Alexandria.
